JAMES C. JESSOP
James C. Jessop, president and owner of Jessop Jeweler, is the fifth generation and most recent in a long line of Jessop’s who have worked for the 125-year-old family jewelry business.
A third-generation native San Diegan, James is the son of George Carter Jessop and great grandson of Joseph Jessop, who founded Jessop Jeweler in 1892 after learning watchmaking from his uncle in England.
James Jessop joined the family business in 1974, working alongside his father until 1987 when he purchased the business outright. He has since served as president and owner of Jessop Jeweler downtown San Diego since 1987.
Growing up in a family jewelry business, James cultivated an acute interest and expertise in gemstones. He is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, the world's foremost authority in gemology, diamond grading, jewelry education and gemology research. He is also one of only approximately 450 worldwide who has received accreditation from the American Gem Society as a Registered Jeweler, Certified Gem Appraiser and Certified Gemologist, the highest designation conferred by the American Gem Society.
James’ professional affiliations include membership in the American Gem Society and a Manager of the American Gem Society diamond grading Laboratory Board of Managers.
He also remains active in the community and is a current member of the Downtown San Diego Rotary, as a Board of Director of the San Diego, Orange and Imperial Counties Better Business Bureau, the Executives Association of San Diego where he is a Past President, and the San Diego Yacht Club where he is a Staff Commodore.
James was born and raised in Mission Hills and graduated from Point Loma High School before attending San Diego State University, School of Business.
He enjoys sailing, cruising, distance swimming and skin-diving.
James resides in Point Loma and has three sons, Andrew, Bryan, and Carter.
